Abstract

The most important literary figure of colonial era against the dominant imperialist designs was the Prem Chand. He knew all the traits of imperialism and had been trying to deconstruct them. He wished a system which is free from exploitation. Contemporary age occupies a paramount place in his novels. This contemporary age has linked with political and mental exploitations of colonial masters. He challenged, at every level, all the imperialist agendas and also those who were complicit. Extensive study of his novels reveals his rejection of imperialism, patriotism, non-cooperative policy, sodaishi movement, attempt of Hindu Muslim unity and revolutionary movement. His strong protest and resistant against suppressive colonial institutions, their corrosive impacts on society, colonial aristocratic and capitalists also show his de-colonial tendency. In this article those novels of Prem Chand are discussed which de-colonial trends.
