Existentialism, Environmentalism and Maut ki Kitaab

Abstract

Khalid Javed is a prominent name in modern Urdu fiction. His work holds unique and distinct significance in Urdu literature. His novel Maut ki Kitab was first published in 2011. Although it is a short novel, it is considered a masterpiece due to its theme, language and philosophical depth. According to critics, Khalid Javed presents the existential crisis of contemporary man in this novel. This article presents a study of this novel in the context of Existentialism and Ecological crisis. The writer argues that the extential crisis in Khalid Javed’s work is not isolated, it is interwined with environmental crisis and corporate culture.
