Abstract

The term nostalgia is commonly used in Psychology. It is a sentimental yearning of pleasure and sadness that is caused by remembering something from the past. The nostalgia is observed throughout the tradition of Urdu poetry and prose. This technique is widely used by modern Urdu poets such as Nasir Kazmi, Munir Niazi, Faiz Ahmad Faiz and Ahmad Rahi. The trend of nostalgia is dominant among the modern Urdu prose writers as well like Intizar Hussain, Qurat-ul Ain Haider, Abdullah Hussain, Raam Lal and Mushtaq Ahamd Yousufi. The migration during the partition of India is expressed as dominant nostalgic phenomenon in Urdu literature.
